Spokesman Highland

Need to knows:

Stroller or sling? Stroller

Baby friendly restrooms? No

Parking validation? No need — big parking lot

It’s tough getting out of the house with a baby. They’re on their own schedule, so even if you manage to time their feedings and changes just right, you’re suddenly ravenous and/or have to use the facilities. It’s a never ending cycle, particularly when they’re very small. We’ve all been there.

On those sorts of days, your best bet is to hit up a coffee shop, It gets you out of the house, but you can stay as long or as little as the baby allows. Many coffee shops close by 2 or 3 pm, however, and sometimes you miss that window. And, honestly, you’re too bougie for a basic Starbucks.

Enter – Spokesman Highland! This coffee shop is open until 5 pm, 5 days a week (and 4 pm on weekends). They have another two other locations — one down south that’s open until 10 pm every day and another on Metric Blvd — but we can’t speak for those as we haven’t been.

The Highland location is a treat, though. They have excellent drinks, snacks, sandwiches, AND you’ll feel cultured because the walls are covered by graffiti from local artists. You’re basically supporting local art, and they have delicious bougie drinks. Their mint matcha latte with oat milk was delectable.

Bring the stroller, there is a long ramp leading from the parking lot to the entrance. Their lot is huge and parking is painless. There is ample seating both outside at the entrance and on the ground floor. The picnic benches outside are completely in the shade — even during the sunniest time of day — but there are no fans, so it may be a bit much on hot days.

outdoor seating

Indoors is spacious and easy to social distance, though. There’s a number of seats on the ground floor, but if you’d like to sit upstairs you’re better off bringing the sling. There’s no elevator or ramp, so you’d be forced to hike the stroller upstairs.

Sadly, there’s no baby changing in the one seater restroom, so bring a travel changing pad. Everything is really clean, so in an emergency you could change the baby on the restroom floor and feel ok about it.

The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the artsy vibe will make your bougie heart sing. They also serve beer, and they have a happy “hour” from 12-3 pm everyday! Beers are only $3 so if interested, that’s a sweet deal.

All in all it’s a really solid find for you and that baby. Check out their site for more info.
